Jutta Schmiers-Heller holds both a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Foreign Language Pedagogy (University of Münster, Germany), as well as a Masters Degree in Applied Linguistics (Montclair State University). She has been teaching at Columbia University since 2002. Prior to joining the Department of Germanic Languages at Columbia, she taught German at Oberlin College and ESL, French, and German at Montclair State University.
As a senior lecturer at Columbia University, Jutta Schmiers-Heller teaches classes at the beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels. Her research interests include second language acquisition, foreign language methodology, computer-assisted/technology-enhanced language learning and materials development.
