Deutsches Haus Space Rental

The first floor of Deutsches Haus is managed by the Department of Germanic Languages at Columbia University and is available for rent to Columbia affiliates. Located in the heart of Morningside Heights, just outside the main campus gates, the space offers a welcoming and easily accessible environment for both CUID and non-CUID holders.

Deutsches Haus provides an inviting setting suitable for lectures, meetings, workshops, and gatherings. All reservations must comply with university policies.

Deutsches Haus Space Rental Information

 

Location: 420 W 116th St, New York, NY 10027

Maximum capacity: 70 people

Rental Cost: $200 per hour/ $800 daily (2 hour minimum)

*Rental time includes set up of space prior to your event as well. Keep this in mind when initially booking as you will not be permitted into the space prior to your agreed rental time.

 

What does the space include?
  • Standard AV (microphone, sound system, video)
  • 70 Chairs
  • 7 Folding tables (6x2.5ft-5ct & 8x2.5ft-2ct)
  • Several upholstered chairs
  • 1 Fridge for food storage

 

Items not included in the rental price: catering, kitchen use, extensive AV (starting at livestreaming or filming), and facilities charges (labor, custodial, rentals, and security which is required on weekends). We do not have an in-house caterer, and you are free to use whichever caterer you like.

 

A post event custodial cleaning is REQUIRED for every rental. A work order number must be provided to [email protected] prior to the rental.

FAQS

Q: How much is the post event clean up?

A: As a renter, you are required to file a cleaning request with facilities. We cannot tell you how much the cleaning fee is as it varies. Please reach out to facilities for this information at [email protected]

 

Q: What is included in the space?

A: Chairs and tables are available for use in the space. You may also use the fridge in the kitchen to store food. You MUST provide your own plates, cups, utensils, tablecloth and linen. All supplies in the kitchen are reserved exclusively for the use of the Department of Germanic Languages. 

 

Q: What if I have a presentation I need to display for my event? What is the IT set up?

A: The event space is equipped with an audio & visual system that includes the following

  • Computer & Monitor (Columbia Uni needed to access the computer. You are also able to bring a laptop.)
  • HDMI Cord (Some laptops are not compatible with an HDMI cord. You are responsible for providing your own adapter should this be the case.)
  • Projector & Screen
  • 2 Clickers
  • 1 Microphone
  • Speakers

Should you need anything additional, it is your responsibility to reach out to IT.

 

Q: Can I come in and set up before my event?

A: You are not permitted to access the space prior to your rental time on the signed Rental Agreement. If you need to set up prior to your event, you will need to include this in the rental agreement.
