Caroline Geck

Caroline Geck

Caroline's research focuses on 18th and 19th century German literature in a Transatlantic context. In her MA thesis, she engaged with the role of affect in the writings of Heinrich von Kleist und Herman Melville. At Columbia, she plans to explore different conceptualizations of affect and emotion and their relation to texts which aim at engaging multiple, sometimes diverging audiences at the same time.

Her broader interests include the tragic form, reparative narratology, semiotics, German imaginations of the "New World," and relational aesthetics of the 1990s.

Caroline completed her BA in Philosophy, Cultural Studies, and Cultural Practice at Witten/Herdecke University and received her MA in General and Comparative Literature from the Peter Szondi Institute at Freie Universität Berlin.

Alongside her academic studies, she is a passionate saxophonist.
