Museums perceive themselves as scientific institutions but what does this mean for the daily practice of a curator? How has the unique genre of literature exhibitions changed over the last 15 years? What are the opportunities in German museums that await young scholars with a background in the humanities? The lecture will try to give answers to these questions based on concrete studies and exhibition examples. Christoph Willmitzer received his PhD. in German Literature in 2012 from Humboldt-Universität, Berlin, trained in the Museums of Deutsches Literaturarchiv, Marbach from 2013 to 2015. Since then, he became a scientific-curatorial employee at Deutsches Hygiene-Museums, Dresden. Willmitzer is currently curating an exhibition on the occasion of a new translation of Use Johnson's "Jahrestage" for the Goethe-Institute, New York.
