Caroline's research focuses on German literature of the 18th and 19th Century in a transatlantic context. Her MA thesis engaged with the role of affect in the writings of Heinrich von Kleist and Herman Melville. At Columbia, she plans to explore the relation between affect and different aesthetics of epistemological doubt. Her broader interests include queer and feminist narratology, relational aesthetics of the 1990s and the myriad ways of experiencing literary texts and fine arts.
Caroline completed her BA in Philosophy, Cultural Studies, and Cultural Practice at Witten/Herdecke University and received her MA in General and Comparative Literature from the Peter Szondi Institute at Freie Universität Berlin.
Alongside her academic studies, she is a passionate saxophonist.
