Christopher Thomas Hoffman

Chris began the PhD program in German Studies in the fall of 2017. After completing his BA in Comparative Literature and History at Northwestern University in 2014, he spent several years teaching English in Hamburg, Germany.

He works on the German-speaking critical-theoretical and radical tradition as well as 20th-century literature and film. He is also pursuing a certificate with Columbia’s Institute for Comparative Literature and Society, within the scope of which he is interested in ways of reconsidering critical theory outside of the dominant, European tradition, particularly in the post-Ottoman context.
