Silja Verona Weber
Silja Weber received her undergraduate degree from the Universität Bonn in Germany and her M.A. and PhD (2018) in Germanic Linguistics from Indiana University. Her research integrates perspectives from pedagogy, applied linguistics, and second/foreign language acquisition. The specific questions usually come from experiences with her students, and the results feed back into her teaching practice. She is particularly interested in the theory and design of pedagogical strategies that encourage creative experimentation and reflection, such as collaborative projects, language journals, and sequences of small, improvised performances.
She has taught German for the Goethe-Institut and at Indiana University, where she also ran a pedagogy workshop series by and for graduate instructors and presented teacher training workshops on inclusive teaching and drama pedagogy. At Columbia, she is looking forward to teaching all levels of language courses and being involved in the pedagogical training for graduate students.
