Chloe Paige Dorris Vaughn

Before coming to Columbia in 2016, Chloe Vaughn graduated from Smith College in 2015 with a B.A. in German Studies and History, having written her honors thesis on the fate of Germanistik at the University of Hamburg under National Socialism. She continued her research on this topic the following year with a Fulbright Fellowship to Hamburg, concentrating on the unique position of the Low German linguistic tradition and the life and work of Agathe Lasch. 

Moving both from the hyperlocal to the more broadly Germanic, and from the historical to the literary, she maintains a strong interest in historiography and sees a methodological continuity between the New Historicist approach she took in her undergraduate studies and her graduate research. Her interests are broad, spanning the literature, philosophy and theory of the 18th through 20th centuries, and she continues to nurse an enthusiasm for intellectual history, literature as political philosophy, and literary meditations on cosmopolitanism.
