Anruo Bao
Anruo came to Columbia in 2015. Before she came to Columbia, she studied at Beijing Normal University, double majored in Chinese Literature and English as an undergraduate student. She got her first MA degree of Comparative Literature from the Department of Comparative Literature at Beijing Normal University, and her second MA of Jewish Studies from the Department of Jewish, Islamic and Near Eastern Languages and Cultures of Washington University in St. Louis.
Her research interests include 19-20th Yiddish novels, especially the novels of the three classic Yiddish writers and the novels of the members from the Singer family; the history of modern Yiddish culture; the Yiddish plays; the magic and dybbuks in Yiddish literature; modern Hebrew literature and the history of Shanghai Jews during the Second World War.
Besides her current major (Yiddish Studies), she is also interested in modern Chinese and Japanese fiction. Now, Anruo is also affiliated with Columbia’s Institute for Comparative Literature and Society.
